Recalling the Days of the Stove Top Espresso Machine

A few decades ago, when Starbucks was not the big name that it is today, people brewed their own coffees right from their own kitchens. You will probably still remember how as a child, you would wake up to the rich aroma of strong black coffee wafting through the cracks in your door. This would mean that someone is already using the trusty stove top espresso machine to prepare the brew that the family will drink with breakfast.

Today, these stove top espresso machines have been replaced by more sophisticated home espresso machines that are more convenient to use. However, there is still a certain nostalgia that people associate with the use of stop top espresso machines. It’s not just the espresso itself that we miss about it, because it’s actually easy to avail of good espresso blends just by heading to the nearest coffee shop.

It’s more of the good memories that we associate with the taste and scent of stove top espresso – our grandmother’s cooking, the family gathered all together, and the joy of our childhood days. Most Americans have very pleasant memories linked to the stove top espresso machine, but it would surprise many that this gadget is not really an all-American invention.

Despite its prevalence in 20th century American homes, the stove top espresso machine actually came from the far away land of Italy, where it was conceptualized and developed by a brilliant man named Alfonso Bialetti during the early 1930s. Italians are very avid coffee drinkers, more so than the average American. This is why it is only natural for Bialetti to invent a machine that will provide delicious-tasting and rich-smelling espresso.

Due to the success of his invention, Bialetti began to produce the espresso machines in bulk. To this day, his company remains to be the top manufacturer of stove top espresso machines in Italy. Soon after its invention, Americans somehow got a hold of these smachines. They began importing these goods from Italy, and the rest is history.

Europeans Love the Stove Top Espresso Machine

While most stove top espresso machines in the United States have already been replaced by more modern versions, the original machines are still very much in use and in demand in European countries such as Spain and Portugal. However, the demand in these countries is still a far cry from that in Italy, where these espresso machines are still the most commonly used machines to make good coffee.

The stove top espresso machine has endured despite the development of new coffee-making appliances. This power of endurance can only mean that it will still be in use many decades from now.
